Reexamination Request against MobileMedia Smart-Phone Patent, among those Filed Week of April 4, 2011

An ex parte request has been filed – probably by HTC – against one of MobileMedia Ideas’ 11 smart-phone patents that are the subject of its pending infringement litigation against HTC (see ex parte Request No. (2) for U.S. Patent No. 5,915,239). MobileMedia obtained the ‘239 patent from Nokia Capital. Reexamination was ordered last month (90/011,436) for one of the other MobileMedia patents-in-suit, U.S. Patent No. 6,253,075; reexaminations against the other nine MobileMedia patents might be pending as well. MobileMedia has two parallel smart-phone infringement law suits pending, one against Apple, and one against RIM.
On the heels of its earlier requests against three XRPT patents, eBay requested reexamination of two additional XPRT patents (see inter partes Request Nos. (2) & (3)).
Finally, Beckman Coulter requested reexamination of a GeneOhm Sciences Canada patent claiming a method for detection of certain methicillin-resistant bacteria (see inter partes Request No. (5)).
The following inter partes requests were filed:
(1) 95/001,595 (electronically filed) – U.S. Patent No. 6,909,340 entitled BULK ACOUSTIC WAVE FILTER UTILIZING RESONATORS WITH DIFFERENT ASPECT RATIOS and owned by Avago Tech. Wireless. Filed April 4, 2011, by TriQuint Semiconductor. The ‘340 patent is currently the subject of a litigation styled TriQuint Semiconductor v. Avago Tech. Ltd. et al. (Case No. 09-cv-1531-PHX-JAT (D. Ariz)).
(2) 95/001,596 (electronically filed) – U.S. Patent No. 7,599,881 entitled SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR OFFERING AN INCENTIVE TO A USER OF AN ELECTRONIC COMMERCE WEB SITE and owned by XPRT. Filed April 4, 2011, by eBay. The ‘881 patent is currently the subject of a litigation styled XPRT Ventures v. eBay et al. (Case No. 1:10-cv-595-SLR (D. Del.)).
(3) 95/001,597 (electronically filed) – U.S. Patent No. 7,610,244 entitled SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR EFFECTING PAYMENT FOR AN ITEM OFFERED FOR AN ELECTRONIC AUCTION SALE and owned by XPRT. Filed April 5, 2011, by eBay. The ‘244 patent is currently the subject of a litigation styled XPRT Ventures v. eBay et al. (Case No. 1:10-cv-595-SLR (D. Del.)).
(4) 95/001,598 (electronically filed) – U.S. Patent No. 7,328,593 entitled REFRIGERANT VALVE ARRANGEMENT and owned by Danfoss A/S. Filed April 8, 2011 by Hansen Technologies, Inc. The ‘593 patent is currently the subject of a litigation styled Danfoss v. Hansen Technologies (Case No. 3:10-cv-1775 (D. Conn.)).
(5) 95/001,599 (electronically filed) – U.S. Patent No. 7,449,289 entitled METHODS FOR DETECTION AND IDENTIFICATION OF METHICILLIN-RESISTANT STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS and owned by GeneOhm Sciences Canada. Filed April 8, 2011, by Beckman Coulter, Inc.
