Sony Seeks Inter Partes Review of Data Vending Patent, Week of December 31, 2012

Sony has requested inter partes review of a data vending patent owned by Benjamin Grobler (see inter partes review Request No. 1)).  Grobler has sued Sony and Apple in California for infringement of the patent.

Inter partes review was also requested for a patent owned by the U.S. Government, that claims chemical composition for repelling pests (see inter partes review Request No. (3)). 

The following inter partes review requests were filed:

(1)         IPR2013-00076 (electronically filed) – U.S. Patent No. 6,799,084 entitled DATA VENDING SYSTEM and owned by Benjamin F. Grobler.  Filed December 31, 2012 by Sony Computer Entertainment America, LLC.  The ‘084 patent is currently the subject of a litigation styled Grobler v. Sony Computer Entertainment America, LLC (Case No. 5:12-cv-01526-LHK (N.D. Cal.)); Grobler v. Apple Inc. (Case No. 5:12-cv-01534-LHK (N.D. Cal.)).

(2)         IPR2013-00103 (electronically filed) – U.S. Patent No. 8,018,348 entitled APPARATUS FOR IDENTIFYING A CIRCUIT BREAKER FEEDING A REMOTELY DISPOSED ELECTRICAL OUTLET AND METHOD OF USING THE APPARATUS and owned by David Pagnani.  Filed January 3, 2013 by Tasco Inc.

(3)         IPR2013-00105 (electronically filed) – U.S. Patent No. 7,579,016 entitled METHODS FOR REPELLING ARTHROPODS USING ISOLONGIFOLENONE ANALOGS and owned by United States, as represented by the Secretary of Agriculture.  Filed January 5, 2013 by International Flavor & Fragrances Inc.
