Reexamination Requests against Univ. of Washington Medical Imaging Patent among those Filed Week of July 9, 2012

NeuroGraphix has filed a series of infringement actions, including four last Wednesday, alleging infringement of U.S. Patent No. 5,560,360 that claims a medical imaging device and is owned by the University of Washington.  NeuroGraphix is the exclusive licensee of the ‘360 patent.  The accused infringers include the University of California, Philips, Tufts College, Boston University, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess and the President and Fellows of Harvard College.  Last Tuesday an anonymous party requested reexamination of the ‘360 patent (see ex parte Request No. (2)). 

Cisco requested reexamination of a data redirection system patent owned by Linksmart Wireless Technology (see inter partes Request No. (1)).  Linksmart has sued Cisco, T-Mobile and a number of others for infringement of the patent. 

EMC requested reexamination of a patent claiming a system to check words in documents (see ex parte Request No. (7)).  EMC and approximately 65 other companies have been sued for infringement by the patent owner WordCheck Technologies. 

An anonymous request was filed against U.S. Patent No. 7,221,257 claiming a wireless device (see ex parte Request No. (4)).  The ‘257 patent was originally owned by Micron and is now owned by Round Rock Research.

(1)         95/002,035 (electronically filed) – U.S. Patent No. 6,779,118 entitled USER SPECIFIC AUTOMATIC DATA REDIRECTION SYSTEM and owned by Linksmart Wireless Technology.  Filed July 12, 2012, by Cisco.  The ‘118 patent is currently the subject of a litigation styled Linksmart Wireless Tech. v. T-Mobile USA et al. (Case No. 8-12-cv-522 (C.D. Cal.))

(2)         95/002,036 (electronically filed) – U.S. Patent No. 7,158,118 entitled 3D POINTING DEVICES WITH ORIENTATION COMPENSATION AND IMPROVED USABILITY and owned by Hercules Technology III.  Filed July 13, 2012, by Movea, Inc. 

(3)         95/000,674 (paper filed) – U.S. Patent No. 7,854,980 entitled and owned by Knauf Insulation.  Filed June 30, 2012, by Rockwool International A/S. 

(4)         95/000,675 (paper filed) – U.S. Patent No. 7,772,347 entitled A BINDER AND FIBER GLASS PRODUCT FROM MAILLARD REACTANTS and owned by Knauf Insulation.  Filed June 30, 2012, by Rockwool International A/S.
