Attacks on Two LSI Logic Video Decoder Patents, among Reexamination Requests filed Week of April 25, 2011

LSI Logic is pursuing an infringement suit against Vizio in the Central District of California (see ex parte Request Nos. (4) & (5)).  On Thursday, reexamination was requested for two of the patents in that suit, in all likelihood requested by Vizio

Also, Micro-Probe requested reexamination of another FormFactor patent – as previously reported, the two companies are in litigation in the Northern District of California (see inter partes Request No (3)).  And Funai requested reexamination of one of the Freescale computer patents in the case between the two companies in the Western District of Texas (see ex parte Request No (7)).

The following inter partes requests were filed:

(1)         95/001,611 (electronically filed) – U.S. Patent No. 7,693,608 entitled SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR ALARM FILTERING AND MANAGEMENT WITHIN A REAL-TIME DATA ACQUISITION AND MONITORING ENVIRONMENT and owned by DP Three.  Filed April 26, 2011, by Operation Technology

(2)         95/001,612 (electronically filed) – U.S. Patent No. 6,895,389 entitled INTERNET PROCUREMENT METHOD and owned by Consumers Interstate.  Filed April 28, 2011, by Staples.  The ‘389 patent is currently the subject of a litigation styled Consumers Interstate v. Staples et al. (Case No. 3:06-cv-173)).

(3)         95/000,629 (paper filed) – U.S. Patent No. 7,671,614 entitled APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR ADJUSTING AN ORIENTATION OF PROBES and owned by FormFactor.  Filed April 13, 2011, by Micro-Probe.  The ‘614 patent is currently the subject of a litigation styled FormFactor v. Micro-Probe & David Browne (Case No. 10-cv-3095-VRW (N.D. Cal.)).

(4)         90/011,661 (electronically filed) – U.S. Patent No. 5,452,006 entitled TWO-PART SYNCHRONIZATION SCHEME FOR DIGITAL VIDEO DECODERS and owned by LSI Logic.  Filed April 27, 2011, likely by Vizio.   The ‘006 patent is currently the subject of a litigation styled LSI Logic v. Vizio (Case No. 8:10-cv-1602-AG (C.D. Cal.)).
